This is like something from season five of The Wire. Amazing. This is such an excellent and totally necessary shaming of John Cruickshank. His memo could be a case study in Orwell's "Politics and the English Language". Any newspaper man (or editor) who hasn't read this -- and Cruickshank clearly hasn't, or at least isn't heeding its wisdom -- doesn't deserve the name. He falls into every depraved habit that Orwell talks about. Veiling the truth and degrading language go hand-in-hand (except Orwell would hate "hand-in-hand" because it's a cliche). PS. Brendan, I love the deliberate erros in your text ("that crown looking guy"). The world needs editors! Wow. This is like something from season five of The Wire. Amazing.
