A couple years ago I made a project called “Eat Up” together with the greatest woman on earth, Mee Michelle Liu. Eat Up was an experiment in a new medium that (I think) we invented called the tablezine - a magazine formatted as a tablecloth. Here’s an example from a special issue we made for Get It Louder, a bi-annual contemporary art exhibition held in shopping malls around China.

It seemed like a great idea to us - groups have something to talk about as they wait for their food, singles have something to occupy them while they eat, restaurants minimize clean-up, advertisers have a brand new platform… At the time I had lots of ideas for finding alternative venues for print, but over time I kind of lost steam and started working on other things. But today I saw this wonderful piece of Russian next-levelhood and was reminded…

According to English Russia:
In one Russian town they have started publishing newspapers on… plastic bags that you get in grocery stores.
The edition is always fresh, so each time you get back from the store you can get your portion of news

Sweet.
