I just heard that Tony Silver, director of the film Style Wars, passed away. There isn’t much about it online, but the index page of stylewars.com is in memory of Tony, so I guess it’s official.
It’s hard for me to express the love I have for this movie. But I can say with total certainty that it is the movie I’ve watched more than any other. If it were up to me it would be in the Smithsonian next to the Wright Bros. plane and Betsy Ross’s flag.
For more info, download its press kit here.
The whole thing’s up on youtube and google video. But if you like it, it’s worth buying the DVD, since there’s a bonus disc and *hopefully* some of the money will make it to the people who made it. You can order from the stylewars site or amazon.
More recently Tony directed Facing the Audience, a documentary about the painter Marshall Arisman. Check out the trailer here.
(Sorry that’s as big as I could get it…)
Peace to a person who gave something of beauty to the world.
