What I find unutterably sad is that thousands of years of human experience (copiously documented in war literature) repeat the same themes ad infinitum…the cynical PR job to stoke the flames….the manipulation of ill-directed patriotism….the waste and destruction…the smashed idealism of at least some sectors of the young military….and at the end, the maimed, defiant veterans in their sad, defiant parades joining All The Others from previous wars. Too many Flanders Fields, and surely the poppies have stopped blowing.
