So, obviously, I’ve been slacking in my blogging. Lot of things have happened since October of course. To borrow from the man Juvenile, it’s been “up and down side to side like a centipede.”
But I’m trying to get back to do this regular, so I hope people are still around to check this thing out.
The only event happening during the long hiatus that I want to get into is the death of James Brown, Soul Brother #1, on Christmas. It’s really impossible to capture the full extent of this man’s genius and influence, and none of the obituary articles that I read after he passed made it clear. I won’t pretend to be able to do it myself, so I’m just gonna let the man speak for himself…
First, a knock down drag out version of “It’s a man’s, man’s, man’s world” from his legendary Live at the Apollo 1962:

Then a tribute song by children’s group Ghetto Reality:

And the best clip I could find on Youtube – Mother Popcorn –

And last, a kind of stange and kind of beautiful clip of JB on stage with MJ and the Artist at the heart of their 80s glory…

Rest in Peace Godfather
